Policies
Chartwells Catering is proud to provide the highest quality catering to the Central Michigan University community. We have developed the following guidelines and policies to successfully respond to your needs and serve you in the fullest.
Prior to placing your catering order, please contact Events and Conference Services at plan@cmich.edu or 989-774-7526. It is the responsibility of the customer to make arrangements for the room set-up & A/V needs. If you would like assistance in determining the number and size of tables you will require, or what time our catering team needs access to the room, our Catering Sales Office will be happy to assist you.
Our talented chefs are delighted to create special menus that accommodate your culinary preferences, dietary needs, and budget. Please contact the Catering Sales Office directly to arrange a personal consultation.
We recommend placing your order as early as possible. While every effort is made to accommodate all catering requests, late orders may slow our operational efficiency and effect menu availability.
Chartwells Catering requires a final guest count 5 business days prior to your event depending on the nature of your event. If a final count is not received within the 5 business days prior to the event, the last communicated guest count will be used. All catering functions will be billed at 100% of the final guest count or amount of guests served, whichever is greater. Your catering sales consultant will advise you of your final count date.
For orders placed under the minimum quantity required, there will be a $2.00 charge per person.
Chartwells Catering will allow you to cancel your event up to 3 business days prior to the scheduled time of the event at no charge. Events cancelled with less than 3 business days will be charge 50% of the total bill. Catered events cancelled less than 24 hours before the event will be charged 75% of the total. In the event of a last minute cancellation due to an emergency, the Catering Sales Office will use its discretion as to what charges will be rendered to cover any food and labor costs that have been spent in the preparation of the event.
Please contact the Catering Sales Office for pricing on any items not listed in this brochure. Pricing is subject to change depending on raw food and labor costs.
For off-campus events within the city of Mt. Pleasant, a $25 delivery fee will apply. All other deliveries will be assessed additional mileage depending on the travel distance.
For plated and served meals that include more than one entrée selection, there will be a $1.00 charge per person. Multiple entrées will be limited to 2 options including starter and dessert for parties under 50 and to 3 for parties over 50. We do allow for vegetarian and/or dietary options to be offered at no additional charge. When choosing a menu for a served meal with more than one option, all attendees must choose prior to the start of the event and a menu card or name tag must be supplied by the client.
Any additional decorations or special requests such as themes, requested linen, fresh flowers, ice carvings, etc. will be charged accordingly.
Events not related to CMU activities, including some registered student groups, will be added a 6% sales tax. If tax exempt, proper documentation must be on file prior to the event.
Chartwells Catering provides linens for all buffet tables at no additional charge. Guest table linens along with china and glassware are included when a full service menu is ordered at the Bovee University Center meeting rooms. If you would like to upgrade to china, glassware and standard white linen for use at any location outside of the Bovee University Center, these can be provided at an additional charge of $2.50 per guest. Please contact the Catering Sales Office regarding options and associated costs.
Due to Federal, State, health, and Michigan Liquor Control Laws, Central Michigan University does not allow any food or beverage to be brought in by guests. All food and beverages must be purchased through Campus Dining, with the exception of wedding cakes.
In adherence with local Health Department regulations, it is our strict policy that there will be no credit given or carry out of perishable food not consumed at your event. Any food removed from the location of the event without the permission of the Catering Department becomes the responsibility of the event holder. Once removed from the event, Catering possesses no responsibility for the quality or safety of these items.
